Lot of miles today. Montana continues to surprise and delight us. North Dakota has some beautiful scenery as well. This is an HDR Redo of the original
Lots of fences out here.
Pulling into a small camp/rest area, we couldn't see that far, but it really was pretty.
A dirt path leading back out of a lovely little picnic area.
It's quite arid out here, but not desert-like.
I'm starting to see why they call this "Big Sky Country"
Just had to pull over here.
Not much of a sense of scale here, but trust me, those bails of hay are not your typical size... they're probably 6' on the long side.
The way some of these rocks weather is just amazing.
I wonder how that rock formation stays upright. Seems like it should just tip over.
This was someone's driveway... What you don't see is the gate with "no trespassing" that I'm shooting over.
More rocks and trees.
Another angle on that "I don't see how it doesn't tip over" rock formation.
More interesting geology here than I can shake a camera at.
Ive been trying to get a shot of these big round hay bails for a couple thousand miles. Every time I'd see one I could get to, it was too late to stop. If I saw a field full of these where I ~could~ stop, I couldn't see a safe and/or legal way to get close enough. This photo has "been in my head" for so darn long.
Another view of those round hay bails.
More hay and a small shed.
This is in North Dakota... apparently, we're at the Northern edge of the Badlands.
More Badlands. I don't think they're so bad, but I guess that's because we have roads, air conditioning, and lots of Coca-Cola. It might indeed be pretty bad if you're a pioneer with livestock and wagon trains.
Just stunning landscape.
I have no idea what you call this type of formation, but I do know it's pretty.
Can't drive past scenery like this without my camera shutter finger itching.
The sign had said "Scenic View"... it was not lying.
This landscape is just breathtaking.
Looking into Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
More Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Even more Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Even more more Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Ole last shot of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
