Day 4

Miramichi, NB to Charlottetown, PE

Prev -- Next

On day three, we were driving around near sunset and got some lovely photos... on that drive, I saw an old abandoned barge and boat on the shore of the river, but it was too dark to get the shots I wanted.

So, day 4 started with us backtracking to the barge and boat. After that, we were off to Prince Edward Island. However, we were running so early that we took a bit of a detour over by Port Elgin.

In our wanderings in that area, we found some noteworthy sites including a dilapidated old general store, an abandoned restaurant, and a very tiny cemetery near a navigational aid.

Since it was so early when we arrived on Prince Edward Island, we decided to drive West/North around the shoreline. We found a very secluded beach area, as well as a seaside church & cemetery, a small shellfish processing plant, and a wharf with a small fleet of lobster boats.

  • An old abandoned general store. I spoke with a gentleman named Fred who was taking care of the lawn. He says a couple recently purchased it and are planning on doing some renovation, but he wasn't sure if it was going to be commercial or residential.

  • There's this little park with a nice view of the water, and quite bizarrely, this little graveyard next to a navigational aid.

  • Although it looks like a massive structure, this rusting post is only about four feet high. I got the effect by going REALLY wide and getting about 9" or less away from it with my camera.

  • This seaside cemetery has got a lot of old gravestones. I liked the intricate metalworking on this one. Personally, I think the rust gives it a bit of character.
